Bodmin Trophies Duchy Football League from Michael Newcombe

Saturday 6th February 2010

Mount Charles won a thrilling League Cup second round tie at North Petherwin 5-2 after extra-time. Sam Blount gave them an early lead from a breakaway goal with George Di Santos doubling the advantage. Greg Hutchings reduced the arrears five minutes later with a debut goal and then just after half time Andi Sleeman drew the host’s level. There was no further scoring in normal time, but as the game went into extra time the home legs tired. Jake Blythe scored two goals and when Di Santos scored his second the tie was secured.

St.Cleer reserves complete the quarter-final line-up in the Tamar Valley Butchers Reserves Cup after a four nil win at St.Teath reserves. Tallin Stevens scored a brace with Darren Harvey also on target. The remaining St.Cleer goal was a twenty-fifth of the season from Lee Powell. St.Cleer will be at home to Pelynt reserves in the last eight.

Fowey United were in irresistible form in front of goal as they handed out a 9-2 Premier Division hammering to Foxhole Stars. Andrzej Bartnicki, Josh Frampton and Gary Barnard scored a brace apiece with Sean Godridge, Jamie Martin and Rory Barnicle completing the rout. Martin Sleeman scored one of the visitor’s consolation goals.

St.Cleer were two down after twenty-five minutes at home to St.Mawgan, but bounced back to win 7-2. Wayne Ferguson and James Olsen had seemingly put the visitors in control but three goals in five minutes before half time turned the game on its head. St.Cleer ran out clear winners after the break. Adam Hutchings and Craig Walton each scored a brace with Colin Wilson coming on as a second half substitute and scoring a hat trick.

Lamerton beat Pensilva 4-2 with Jimmy Steer (2), Richard Searle and Paul Breyley scoring the home goals in a well fought game.

Mevagissey conceded their first home goals of the season as they went down two nil against Altarnun in a crunch Division One promotion clash. Altarnun were the better side for most of the match and finally broke the deadlock in the fifty-third minute through a Dave Medland goal. The visitors continued in charge, but with fifteen minutes remaining, Mevagissey at last put some good play and in intense pressure they struck the woodwork three times. Altarnun where not to be denied and Stuart Cole confirmed the points with his eighty-first minute goal.

Godolphin Atlantic dropped into the relegation places last week, but they were given an early boost at home to leaders Launceston United when the visitors had a player sent off after two minutes for striking an opponent. The home side took their chance to revive their season with Dave Moore scoring a hat trick in a 4-1 win. Ross Fallens completed the home scoring.

St.Stephen earned the spoils from a vital relegation battle at home to Grampound with a two nil success. The game was rather spoiled by some erratic refereeing which frustrated both teams. St.Stephen just about deserved the win although it could be argued that Grampound played the better football. The game flowed from end-to-end but had little end product although St.Stephen did look more dangerous in front of goal. Matt Spry should have opened the scoring but hit a weak shot, but the hosts did take a first half lead from a late corner. Truscott’s cross was headed on and touched onto the bar by keeper Tony Ford with Ross Dunn heading in the rebound. The second half followed similar lines with more frustration before Nick Spry headed on a corner for Kyle Willmott to finish.

Week St.Mary picked up a good 3-2 win at Bodmin Saints in a good game. Shane Hearn and Shaun Cunningham scored the home goals.

St.Newlyn East stay top of Division Two as they continued their fine recent form with a five nil hammering of lowly Camelford. The visitors arrived with a strengthened team and put up a good performance, but were never in the hunt. Liam Dent turned in the area and was brought down for a penalty which Chris Hall dispatched for the opener. George Harrold them beat two players before outing in a pin-point cross for Dent to head the second. They made it three before the break when Russell Withers through ball was taken on by Chris Ballett who outpaced the defence to net. Ballett scored his second after a Withers flick on and when Newlyn were awarded a second penalty, Ballett was given the chance to take the kick for his hat trick, which he duly took.

Holywell Bay/Cubert Athletic featured in their first ever goalless game since joining the league. Holywell hit the woodwork twice and visitors Polperro also struck a post, but that was the closest either side got in an evenly contested contest.

Josh Cook scored twice as Lostwithiel picked up to very welcome points from a 3-1 win at Calstock. Nick Harvey scored the other visiting goal with Darren Benfield replying for the hosts.

Division Three leaders AFC St.Austell Stratton United, a team on a hot streak, but the leaders extended their lead with a 3-1 victory. Phil Hutchings, Lee Harvey and James Powell scored the home goals.

Roche opened the scoring at home to St.Dennis when Dean Robinson scored from a free kick. Five minutes later St.Dennis equalised and they then went on to score twice more in what was an even first half. Roche thought they were still in the game at this stage, but they were caught sleeping right from the kick off after the break for the fourth goal and there was no way back. Dwain Upton scored a hat trick with Scott Brown, Ross Tamblin, Dave Hooper, Dave Cloke and Danny Denning completing the visitors tally as they ran out 8-1 winners.

Steve Cribb gave Gunnislake reserves a first half lead at Pensilva reserves when he headed in from a free kick. The hosts were well in the game at this time, but a Jason Ridgment brace and a Kieron Jasper goal put the visitors well in charge. Pensilva reduced the final arrears to 1-4 when Marc Tuck’s free kick hit Peter Collins on the back and deflected into the goal.

Queens Rangers beat St.Minver 5-3. Jamie Leavers scored a brace for the home team with Casey Laity, Ben Hawken and Nathan Johns completing their tally. St.Minver replied through a Jason Keatley double and Matt Mountain’s goal.

Sticker moved to within a point of Division Four leaders Gerrans after a three nil win at Altarnun reserves, albeit having played more games. The first half was dire on a very heavy pitch. Alex Keast picked up the ball to fire Sticker into the lead and this was followed by a good long-range shot from Mark Bennets for the second. Bennetts scored his second late on to seal the points.

Grampound Reserves stay in the relegation places after a lone goal defeat at home to Callington Town. Tom McConnachie scored the only goal halfway through the first half when his free kick from out on the touchline found the net. Grampound spurned two reasonable chances in the first half and Ryan Orchard fired wide when in on goal in the second half as the hosts Achilles heel from crosses cost them dearly again.

Tintagel won 2-1 at home to Stoke Climsland to stay in contention. Brothers, Olly and Adam Price scored the home goals with Toby Chapman replying.

Newquay Minor won 2-1 at Lewdown Rovers with Chris Singleton and Dominic Roberts hitting the target. Adie Clements scored for Lewdown.

Delabole reserves won their first game of the season in Division Five with a two nil derby success at Boscastle reserves. With their first team game a victim of the weather a strengthened visiting squad enjoyed the win with goals from father and son, Mark and Kallum Binney.

Tregony lost vital ground in their title challenge when beaten 2-1 at home by promotion rivals Charlestown Saints. Tregony faced an uphill struggle after being reduced two ten men after only twenty minutes. Nick Mills and Andy Kerrigan scored the Saints goals with Ross Vicary scoring from the spot for Tregony.

North Hill had a 4-1 success over St.Mawgan reserves in a good game played with cracking spirit. Jimmy Bloomfield, Reece Heywood, James Seddon and Jimmy Richards scored for North Hill with Dave Chiswell getting a consolation. Extended report........

North Hill v St.Mawgan reserves

The game was contained in midfield for most of the first half with both teams playing some neat football. The deadlock was broken after 40 minutes when Reece Heyward scored for the home team when he hit a tremendous volley from 30 yards into the roof of the net. North Hill had the better of the exchanges in the second half but St.Mawgan battled away and were near to an equaliser many times. North Hill went further in front after 75 minutes when after a careful build up through the midfield James Bloomfield scored with a cracking drive. The visitors heads dropped after the goal and North Hill scored further goals through Jimmy Richards and a great 20 yard curling effort from James Sneddon. With the last kick of the game Dave Chiswell scored a consolation goal for the visitors. The game was played in a fine sporting manner by both sides and handled competently by referee Alan Bolitho.

The Duke of Cornwall let a 2-1 half time lead slip and lost 3-2 at home to Pelynt reserves. In an entertaining match Pelynt scored inside the opening ten minutes courtesy of a Mike Greer own goal. A debut goal from new signing Adam Gamble from just inside the penalty area pulled the Dukes level. A neat turn and half volley from Chris Hall saw the Dukes take the lead which they held to the half time whistle. Pelynt came out the stronger in the second half and scored two goals through Tom Marjeram and Rob Chapman in a twenty minute spell. The Dukes created but failed to convert some half chances and ended up on losing side at the final whistle.

Looe Town knocked Cornwall Junior Cup eastern area favourites St.Teath out of the competition at the semi-final stage as the game finished in extra-ordinary circumstances. Nick Senior gave Looe an early lead when he scored following a corner. St.Teath equalised ten minutes before half time through Neil Polkinghorne and had enough chances in the second half to have won comfortably. Ted Meagor missed their two best efforts. St.Teath looked to have claimed the tie in the second minute of injury time when Polkinghorne scored his second. With the referee adding on a significant amount of time Saints were stunned when Wes Garaghon headed an equaliser at the far post from a free kick. With the game now looking certain to go into extra time amazingly even more added time was played and from another free kick Tony Hillman gave Looe a 3-2 win. Extended report........

Garaghon does it again!

Junior Cup Eastern Section Semi Final

Looe Town Vs St Teath

Looe went into this fixture as the underdogs against a St Teath side who have only lost one game all season. The match started as everyone expected with a frenetic pace to the play and some strong challenges. Looe started brightly and had the best of the early possession and soon turned their endeavour into the first reel opportunity of the game when good work from Senior fed Hillman, who wriggled through the defence before being thwarted by the keeper. Chances were few and far between in this enthralling but tight affair and it was Looe again who created it when Hutt controlled a long clearance and knocked it to Carroll, who’s first time ball split the defence for O’Brian to race onto and neatly finish giving the home side a deserved lead. St Teath responded well though and after a corner wasn’t cleared and some poor marking, the visitors drew level just before half time.

The second half was a much more even, with St Teath starting to force there way into the game. Although Looe’s keeper Rendle was rarely called into action as he was given great protection from Southern, Gowing, Manning and Chapman in defence. The game looked to be heading for extra time when the visitors won and scored from a late corner to make the score 2-1. With time almost out injury forced Hutt from the field, who made way for club captain and goal hero from the last round Garaghon and with only seconds remaining a long cross field ball was headed back across the box by Barrett and met by the head of the unmarked Garaghon who squeezed the ball in at the far post with his first touch to make it two all. With only stoppage time remaining both sides continued to look for the winner but it was Looe who won a free kick, Hillman swung a devilishly good ball towards a mêlée of players only for the keeper to miss it under pressure from Garaghon giving Looe the lead and the win with the last kick of the game.

Nick Senior was man of the match for a good all-round display in the middle of the park. Looe’s Manager Mick Crick said “I’m absolutely thrilled with the result and our never say die attitude. The players should be thoroughly proud of themselves and we can not wait to represent the town in the final” Looe will play Lanreath reserves in the final on the 2nd March 2010.

Saturday 30th January 2010

Gunnislake switched their Premier Division match to Saltash United and won it three nil. Gunni shaded the possession in the first half with Tom Hall giving them a thirty-eighth minute lead. The second half was more even, but Saltash couldn’t break down the visitors defence. Kelly doubled the lead in the sixty-sixth minute with Kevin Hatch completing the scoring six minutes later.

St.Teath kicked off late as they cleared snow before the game with Fowey United. The delay was worthwhile as they won 4-1. Gary Barnard caused the home defence a lot of early trouble as he rolled back the years but was denied by the St.Teath keeper. The home side gradually go back in the game, but it was the second half before they took the lead when Andy Burden at last beat the superb Fowey replacement goalkeeper Craig Rowe. Fowey were not behind for long as Barnard scored a deserved equaliser, but right from the kick off Jamie Kay restored the home lead. Kay then scored a fine goal from twenty yards and St.Teath completed the victory when a ball out wide was struck home superbly from the edge of the box by mike Hewett.

Torpoint Athletic maintain their place at the summit with a four nil defeat of Lamerton. The back four were instrumental in this win keeping a third successive clean sheet as was the contribution of veterans Neil Williams and Chris Trick in midfield who won the physical battle. Andy Carter scored an unbelievable opening goal taking the ball on his chest and then hitting a right foot volley from twenty-yards. Tom Smith doubled the lead from a half volley before Brian Stacey met Carter’s cross at the far post with a powerful header. Jason Bates completed the scoring when a corner dropped nicely for him to finish.

Pensilva appeared to be doomed to relegation after a three nil home defeat by St.Mawgan. Wayne Ferguson scored twice with Lee Gallagher adding the other visiting goal.

St.Cleer leave St.Dominick pinned in the bottom two after a 2-1 away win.

Mevagissey put their Division One game with St.Stephen to bed within twenty-five minutes with four goals. Chris Dingle scored the opener with Miles Gardner (2) and Martin Davy increasing the advantage. Conditions then took their toll as the game settled and it was not until the second half that Davy cut in from the right to score a fifth and concluding goal as they ran out 5-0 winners.

Altarnun leapfrogged promotion rivals Tywardreath RBL to jump into third position after a 4-1 win. Altarnun won a corner, which was poorly crossed over but the ball took a deflection of an RBL defender for the opening goal. Neil Tryner scored the second after being one-on-one with the keeper and Steve Jasper converted after a Sam Smith pass to make it 3-0 at half time. Dave Medland let in Tryner for his second, but RBL hit back with a consolation goal when Kevin Morcom hit a thirty yard shot that went right through the keeper’s legs.

Boscastle were much better than leaders Launceston United in the first half and deserved more than Darren Hambly’s goal. The game turned with two controversial penalty decisions for the visitors in the second half. Boscastle were astounded that the first award was made when no one in the Launceston squad appealed and felt the second one came from a challenge outside the area. Chris Rockell converted both awards. Launceston went 3-1 up before the hosts pulled a goal back through an own goal, but the visitors scored once more to run out 4-2 winners and in truth were the better side in the second half. Mark Goodman and Chris Warren were the visitor’s other scorers.

Grampound and Week St.Mary shared the spoils from a one all draw. Steve Moorcroft put the hosts ahead on fifteen minutes when he rose highest at a corner to head home. Week capitalised on a defensive error to equalise through Rob Hambly before half time and in the end a draw was a fair result.

Probus beat Maker with Rame 4-1 with Mike Holden netting a brace. Ben Colquhoun and the classy young Zach Mitchell also scored for Probus with Tom Rothwell getting the visitor’s consolation goal.

St.Newlyn East won the clash of the day in Division Two with an impressive 4-1 defeat of Lanreath. The home side were really fired up for this fixture and outplayed their rivals. They started in the right fashion and went close on numerous occasions. Chris Hall gave them the lead with a looping volley that deflected in off a defender. They doubled the lead on twenty minutes when Russell Withers curled a sublime finish around the keeper. The Newlyn defence were well in control giving a sound base and their third goal came on the hour mark when Liam Dent side-footed in Chris Ballett’s pass. Brian Mould scrambled home a consolation goal for Lanreath but Newlyn had the final say when Dent scored his second ten minutes from time. Dent was then denied a hat trick when he was judged to have handled the ball.

Bere Alston United toppled overnight leaders Looe Town reserves in a cracking game that was well refereed. James Burns and Graham Galway scored for Bere in a 2-1 win with Mike Dingle replying for Looe.

St.Breward were another team to clear snow to allow their game with Pelynt to go ahead. Pelynt won quite comfortably 6-2 with Liam Jones and Nick Knapman scoring a brace apiece with Ed Johns and Tony Harman getting their other goals. Ben Jarram scored a penalty for St.Breward with Alistair Feasey adding another goal in his debut.

Holywell Bay/Cubert Athletic had a welcome win in their battle against relegation at Delabole. Aidan Reek scored a brace and Ian Brooks and Adam Cocking added further goals in a 4-2 win. Darren Rivers scored both home goals.

Calstock finally played a home game on their own pitch after the drainage problems of the last two years and fought out an entertaining two all draw with promotion chasing Polperro. Gareth Layer and Barry Hemmett scored for Calstock with Polperro replying through James Morris and Paul Webber.

Joy at last for Pensilva reserves as the club won its first game of the season in Division Three. Nigel Hicks put them ahead Gorran and they held the lead until the last ten minutes when Gorran grabbed an equaliser. The home side rallied and got their winner at the death when Dave Hicks put through Andy Lobb who had his fist shot half saved but he followed up to put in the rebound.

Leaders AFC St.Austell left it late at St.Dennis before clinching a 3-2 win. The hosts had the majority of play in difficult conditions and went ahead in the first half through Dwain Upton. The equaliser was stated as dubious from the home side with their linesman missing what looked a clear offside position by Phil Hutchings before scoring. Richard Tamblin made an error which gave St.Austell the lead which Lee Harvey gratefully accepted. St.Dennis looked to have earned a deserved point two minutes from time when Ian Morton equalised which led to heated arguments from the visiting side and resulting in one of their number being dismissed. But St.Austell are top for a reason and they showed their resolute character by getting the ball from the restart and forcing a winner from Chris Knight.

Premier Sixes dropped vital points in their title challenge as for the second week running they found the visiting side to be more comfortable on the Tretherras carpet. Queens Rangers are much improved and took a first half lead when Chad Gibson fired in off the post. Sixes just couldn’t beat the impressive Neil Mitchell in the Queens goal and he continued to shine in the second half. The equaliser finally came five minutes from time from Karl Urlander who then shortly after got sent off, which led to a late Queens’s siege to force a winner, but Sixes at least held on for a point.

Roche had to clear snow off the lines to get their game with Gunnislake reserves underway. The visitors took the lead on thirty minutes through Matt Rowing-Parker. Roche equalised when a Ryan Lavery free-kick came back off the bar and Dean Robinson followed up. The home side then took the lead through Craig Phillips and looked to be winning the points until Dean Martin scored late on to force a two all draw.

Stratton United had another good home win with a 5-1 defeat of St.Minver. Nick Purcell (2), Adam Bretherick, Mark Cornish and Ken Couch scored for Stratton with Sam Bartley replying.

Sticker moved to within four points of the leaders in Division Four after beating Newquay Minor three nil. They were up and running within two minutes through Mark Bennetts with a shot which curled beyond the goalkeeper. Mark Carter added number two after more good work by Bennetts. A slick through ball from Alex Keast gave Bennetts his second goal before the interval. The visitors came more into the game in the second half but the Sticker defence held firm to keep a blank sheet for the fourth game running.

It was a bad day for North Petherwin who went down 2-1 at home to derby rivals Southgate Seniors. Joe Reeve put the home side ahead and they later had a goal disallowed. But two goals on the break, both from former Petherwin player Dave Sharpe gave the visitors the points.

Stoke Climsland were beaten heavily at home by St.Teath reserves. Roger Beare scored a hat trick with Kevin Kendall and Scott Bennett also finding the target in a five nil win.

Lewdown Rovers won 2-1 at Mount Charles with all the goals coming in the last five minutes. Extended report......

Mount Charles 1 Lewdown 2

The game started off slowly and mount charles had to use there only sub after carl webster who was carrying an injury pulled up. The 1st half went by with not many chances for either sides. It was'nt until the last 10 minutes the game kicked into life with Lewdown scoring the rebound after a great save from Tyrone Stephens. Sam Blount equalised almost immediately after a great ball from keith white. Mount Charles then went for the winner and sam blount hit the post. Lewdown won the ball in the final minute and released their own center half who went through and scored the winner. After a good run for Mount Charles in the last few weeks they need to get back on winning tracks next week.

Padstow United maintained their lead at the top of Division Five with a 9-3 hammering of Duke of Cornwall. There were braces for Jake Charles, Kyle Tippett, Sean Blows and Johnny Murt with Sam Gerry getting the remaining goal. Gerry also scored an own goal for the Duke with Paulo Costa scoring from the spot and Paulo Jorge also on target.

Mevagissey reserves won 2-1 at North Hill. Jack Young and Nick Stevenson scored for Meva with Jimmy Richards replying. Extended report........

The visitors took the lead in the first minute when a clumsy challenge by Dore resulted in the penalty being converted by Jack Young. North Hill equalised after ten minutes when after a flowing move down the right hand side was converted at the far post by Jimmy Richards. The game swung from end to end without many clear-cut chances and the deadlock was broken after 24 minutes when a good interchange of passing by the Mevagissey mid field resulted in Nick Stevenson scored with a neat curling effort. The second half continued with North Hill having all the play without the ability to turn their advantage into goals. The game was played in a good sporting manner and the visitors held on to secure the points.

The final remaining 100 per cent record in the league has been shattered as Bridgerule surprisingly lost two nil at Pelynt Reserves and there was no doubting the hosts right to win. Jake Bellamy and Darren Marlowe scored the vital goals.

Matt Lamb and Jamie Phillips scored for St.Mawgan reserves as they beat Boscastle reserves two nil.

St.Cleer reserves hammered Delabole reserves 8-1 with the divisions leading scorer Lee Powell scoring four more goals. Talinn Stevens added a brace with Matt Carter-Brown and Jon Niblett completing the St.Cleer total. Mark Binney scored a consolation goal for Delabole.

Wadebridge Town went through to the second round of the League Cup with a four nil defeat of Tregony. Paul Dingle scored a brace with Dan Cox and Mark Grills completing the scoring.

Gerrans also moved into the second round after winning 4-1 at Nanpean Rovers. Sam Glanville scored a brace with Ed Rimmer and Glyn Hitchings completing the visitors tally. Tom Pickering replied for Nanpean.

A long delayed Jeffery’s Estate Agents Knock Out cup match was finally played, but it was in great doubt at lunchtime as snow-hit Foxhole players were struggling to get out of their villages to travel to snow-free Looe Town. Sensibly they left it to the last minute and travelled to be rewarded with an outstanding two nil win. Brandon Tregidgo and Aydan Rundle were the Foxhole marksmen.

Saturday 23rd January 2010

Boscastle gave Premier high flyers Gunnislake a pile of problems before the visitors moved into the third round of the Jeffery’s Estate Agents Knock Out cup with three goals in the final fifteen minutes. Boscastle deservedly went into the break one ahead from a Bradley Powell header. They were unfortunate not to double this lead on the stroke of half time but the effort missed the goal. Gunnislake roared forward in the second half but the hosts were holding firm until the late goals. Jarryd Kelly, Stefan Kelly and Tom Hall were the scorer’s.

Tywardreath RBL are also through to the last eight after a last gasp 3-2 win over Bodmin Saints. RBL started looking rather rusty through a lack of football and fell behind on twenty minutes when a good ball through the middle found Dave Jefferies who finished coolly. RBL equalised when Martyn Jones headed a Simon Johnson corner home and Johnson then scored himself to put them ahead. Some sloppy defending put Saints back in the match as RBL gave away poor free kick. Joe Orchard swung in the kick from wide out on the left with his right foot and no one else got a touch as it went in for the equaliser. RBL brought on veteran Kevin Biddick near the end and it was from his run in the final minute that he just touched the ball past the keeper who caught his foot and a penalty was awarded. Jones scored from the spot and then RBL had to endure an anxious eight minutes of injury time.

Saltash United weathered a fierce first half storm of St.Cleer pressure before emerging with a 2-1 win from this first round tie. St Cleer had many chances in the first half, but couldn’t put the ball in the net, or get past the Ashes impressive young keeper Ash Tucker. The visitors arrived with 4 senior players missing, giving the team’s younger players the opportunity to play in this game. At half time, the Ashes changed the playing formation back to 442, and almost instantly saw the game change. Saltash won a free kick, on the outskirts of the St Cleer box, and a well taken kick by Keith Adams, saw Josh Fairweather climb above the St Cleer defence to head the ball into the net on 65 minutes. Saltash pushed on and a well worked move involving Lee Hawkins and Matt Fulton down the St Cleer left saw a pass from Hawkins to Fulton, and Fulton took on several players to smash a left footed shot into the St Cleer goal on 75 minutes. St Cleer never gave up, and their pressure won them a penalty in the 80th minute where Ashley Hutchings scored from the spot to make the last ten minutes exciting. Both sides pushed on, and both defences handled the pressure well. Saltash owe a lot to keeper Ash Tucker for keeping them in the game, he pushed a shot over the bar in the last minute to give the win to Saltash, who will face Torpoint for the third time this season in the next round. Extended report.........St Cleer 1 Saltash United 2

Saltash pushed on and a well worked move involving Lee Hawkins and Matt Fulton down the St Cleer left, saw a pass from Hawkins to Fulton, and Fulton took on several players to smash a left footed shot into the St Cleer goal on 75 minutes.

St Cleer never gave up, and their pressure won them a penalty in the 80th minute where they scored from the spot to make the last 10 minutes exciting.
The last 10 minutes saw both sides push on, and both defences handled the pressure well.
Saltash owe a lot to young keeper Ash Tucker for keeping them in the game, he pushed a shot over the bar in the last minute to give the win to Saltash, who will face Torpoint for the third time this season in the next round.

Bridgerule took a strong side to the Astro Turf at Premier Sixes in the League Cup and played the better football on the surface. Sixes who reached the Junior Cup semi-finals last week were the first to admit that this was the best side that they had faced all season, but it was the home club who triumphed 4-2. Sixes opened the scoring after fifteen minutes when Ben Lawrence hit an unstoppable thirty yard free kick, but Marc Burman netted an equaliser from close range. Martyn Probert restored the home lead before the break only for Dan tape to draw the visitor’s level again when he headed in twenty-two minutes into the second half. Probert scored his second to restore the lead but then saw his hat trick chance denied when his penalty was saved. With the result very much still in doubt Sixes scored the clincher in the last minute when Karl Urlander bent in the goal of the season with a spectacular thirty-five yard screamer.

St.Teath got back to Premier League action with a 6-1 defeat of Pensilva. Ted Meagor put them ahead but it was a disjointed performance and the basement side shocked the hosts with an equaliser from Jack Podmore before the break. St.Teath upped their game in the second half but were nowhere near top form. A long throw found Darren Burden who put St.Teath back in front with Meagor then scoring three quick goals to put the game out of reach. Jamie Kay wrapped it up with the sixth goal near the end.

Launceston United increased their advantage at the top of Division One with Chris Rockell scoring a brace and Ryan Crabb adding another goal in a 3-2 defeat of St.Stephen. The visitors replied with strikes from Matt Spry and Luke Truscott.

Maker with Rame moved off the bottom and leapfrogged their visitors Godolphin to jump out of the bottom two after a 2-1 win. Tom Rothwell and Matt Radley scored the home goals.

Probus drew two all with Week St.Mary with Martin Bishop and Ben Colquhoun getting the home goals.

Polperro faced a resolute St.Breward side playing five men across midfield and looking to settle for a draw in the Division Two clash. The first half ended goalless but Polperro broke the deadlock twenty minutes into the second half from a close range Marcus Wills header. Nathan Pearce then put the hosts two ahead before home keeper Barrie Collings made a fine one on one challenge to deny St.Breward a consolation.

St.Newlyn East struggled owing to long periods of inactivity caused by the weather but eventually gained a vital 2-1 win at Holywell Bay/Cubert Athletic in their promotion push. They started brightly and could have scored in the opening ten seconds but Liam Dent shot over. The opening goal soon came when Chris Ballett drilled home from the edge of the box. Russell Withers was then fouled in the box but Ryan Polmounter saw his penalty kick well saved. Holywell were always dangerous on the break down the slope and from one such attack they won a free kick which was deflected in for the equaliser from a tight angle by Tom Hargreaves. The second half was all Newlyn and Dent missed numerous chances. Jimmy Ward also hit a bar before Withers outpaced the home defence with five minutes left to score the winner.

Looe Town reserves retain top spot after a 6-2 defeat of Calstock. Rob Spencer scored a hat trick and Max Anderson a brace in an impressive victory. Danny Carroll completed the home total with Mark Blanks and Darren Benfield replying for Calstock.

Bere Alston United were in scintillating form in the first half of their game with Pelynt racing into a five goal half time lead. Mike Waldron scored a hat trick with Graham Galway and Dan Behennah also finding the net. As the second half progressed tiredness crept into the home side that had only played once in the last ten weeks and Pelynt showed great character to reduce the final arrears to 5-2 with Tony Harman and Tom Cantwell scoring. And praise for the referee who had a fine game.

Camelford are still without a win after losing 2-1 in a good game with near neighbours Delabole United. George Hughes scored for Camelford, but two Kallum Binney goals gave the visitors the spoils. Extended report........

After a hard fought point last weekend against local rivals St Breward, an improved Camelford side took on another local rival in Delabole.  With local pride at stake and even more so Camelfords 1st win of the season, the game started at a fast pace.  Chances either end of the pitch progressed in Delabole taking the lead with goal from a lively Callum Binney.  Camelford responded with a few of their own chances and were unlucky not to have equalised when a good move between midfield and attack broke down at a vital moment.

Delabole gained more momentum as the half went on and had a few chances to press further ahead but Camelfords defence stood strong.  In the 38th minute, Delabole attacked and scored a fortuitous 2nd when a miscommunication between defender and goalkeeper allowed Callum Binney in.  What should have been a straight forward backheader to the goalkeeper, was spilled and fell straight to the onrushing Callum Binney who slotted away possibly his easiest goal of the season so far.

As the half was drawing to a close, Camelford got a corner and after a wonderfully delivered ball by Gary Masters (on his debut), George Hughes rose above all the Delabole defence to send a powerful header into the roof of the net.

A good half time team talk saw Camelford come out a different proposition at the start of the second. Picking up the pace, Delabole started to tire as Camelford pressed and pressed for the goal that would surely have brought them right back in the game.  Chance after chance fell to the Camelford players but resolute defending and good goalkeeping kept Camelford at bay.  As the 2nd half drew to a close, chances a plenty fell to the Camelford strikers but could find no breakthrough and a good game came to end with Delabole the victors.

AFC St.Austell moved to the top of Division Three after a closely fought 4-2 win at Gunnislake reserves. The game played at St.Anns Chapel was evenly fought in the first half with Jason Goldsmith scoring both Gunni goals as the half ended with them leading 2-1. St.Austell upped the anti in the second half and went on for a deserved win. The visitor’s goals came from Phil Hutchings, Steve Kellow, Lee Harvey and Nick Bennetts.

St.Dennis suffered a disappointing home defeat in their derby with Queens Rangers. Casey Laity scored a brace with Chad Gibson also scoring in the three nil win.

Biscovey beat Pensilva reserves four nil with Steve Branchett, Chris Burns, Ashley Gilbert and Ali Milton on target.

Stratton United beat Roche 3-1. Nick Purcell, Tim Couch and Jamie Osborne scored for Stratton with Jamie Robinson replying.

Gorran were thrashed 5-1 at home by Wadebridge Town. Dave Grose scored the home consolation.

Division Four leaders Gerrans bounced back well from last weeks first defeat to win three nil at title rivals Tintagel. Ryan Harris scored twice with Haydn Andrew also target.

Sticker are now clear in second place after a four nil romp at Southgate Seniors. A first half double from Mark Carter ensured the visitors held the upper hand at half time. Southgate came more into the game in the second half but Sticker struck with a third goal from Sam Walker to put the result beyond doubt. A good run by Alex Keast put Mark Bennetts through for the visitors fourth to finish the game off.

The North Petherwin versus Newquay Minor game featured four penalties and ended at four apiece. Newquay were awarded three of the spot kicks which were all converted by Dominic Roberts on a day he scored all of the visitor’s goals. Two of those penalties were hotly disputed as was the one awarded to North Petherwin right on time that was put away by Chris Riordan for the match saver. Callum Reeve, Mike Riordan and James Gorst scored the other, less controversial home goals.

St.Teath reserves were fortunate to get a 2-1 victory over Grampound reserves. Veteran Mike Bawden fired the visitors ahead with a long-range shot and he later hit a post. Ryan Orchard also went close for Grampound with St.Teath later hitting the woodwork and forcing two good saves out of young Grampound keeper Adam Smith. Grampound continued to control the game in the second half with Henry Hughes missing two good chances. There were just six minutes remaining when St.Teath got their equaliser from a disputed free kick which was finished by Roger Beare. Then in the last minute the visitors were devastated when another disputed referee decision penalised Andy James and Adie Jeffs scored the home winner from the spot. Extended report.......St Teath res and Grampound res fought out an exciting duchy four fixture that could have gone to either team. Both sides started brightly and created a host of chances, however Grampound res struck the early blow 20 mins into the first half with a quality struck from Mike Bawden all of 30yards out. The goal came after St Teath failed to deal with a long ball, and it dropped to Mikes feet. Mike struck with venom, that powered to the right hand top corner leaving Lee Griffin, the St Teath keeper, rooted to the spot. Both sides continued to create chances and St Teath could have fallen further behind when Grampound saw a chance that hit the post. The second half started brightly for St Teath, however they failed to turn possession into goals. Grampound also had chances but the tie was looking destined for a one goal result. On the 80th min St Teath were awarded a free kick in their own half which Dave Gardner punted forward. This was flicked onto goal and well saved, unfortunately for Grampound the ball fell to the head of veteran Roger Beare who headed home from 2 yards. St Teath felt they could win the game and created a few chances. The break through came on the 88th minute when the referee felt a Grampound player had fouled Scott Bennett in the box and Adie Jeffs slotted the resulting penalty home for his 11th goal of the season.

After thirty-five minutes Callington Town had established a 3-0 lead against a seemingly out of sorts Mount Charles, at this stage there was little indication that the game would finish 5-5. Callington had not played for 6 weeks, but within the first five minutes Chris Bartycha finished a fine move involving Sam Gale and Lewis Chrimes to put the home side in the lead. Kane Wilson scored the home team's second goal on twenty minutes, and Chrimes persistence paid off following a defensive mix up by Mount Charles to put Callington 3-0 up. In a mad few minutes before half time, Jake Blythe scored with an overhead kick for Mount Charles, who then hit the post, before Sam Blount claimed their second after the ball hit both posts before crossing the line, to make it 3-2 at half time. Straight from the kick off, a long ball saw Neil White catch out the home defence to equalise. White again scored this time with a neat flick from a long throw to put Mount Charles in front for the first time in the game on seventy-fifth minutes. In the last five minutes Chris Bartycha scored twice to regain the lead for Callington and complete his hat trick, before Peter Thomas scored right at the death for Mount Charles to ensure a share of the points. For Callington this was their fourth consecutive draw.

Stoke Climsland stay bottom after a 5-1 home defeat by Lewdown Rovers. Tom Gosling scored a hat trick for the visitors. Further goals came from Andy Terry and Mark Jordan with Toby Chapman getting the home consolation.

Mevagissey reserves faced Division Five promotion hopefuls St.Cleer reserves in a cracking Division Five match. Mevagissey missed some good chances in a game that could have gone either way. It was finally settled by a lone goal from St.Cleer’s Lee Powell in the fifty-second minute who finished with a superb looping shot.

Second placed Padstow were being held goalless at half time at North Hill, but right from the kick off in the second half North Hill put through their own goal. Padstow went on to win 4-1 with Sean Blows getting a brace. Jimmy Richards scored the home consolation. Extended report.........

After an even first half with good football from both sides the only real scoring chance fell to North Hill when a free kick from Nathan Dore was brilliantly tipped over the bar by the Padstow 'keeper. Half time came with both sides trying to brake the deadlock. Straight from the second half kick off Padstow broke down the left flank and the cross was unfortunately turned into his own net by Kevin O'Donovan.Padstow increased their lead ten minutes later when Lake in the North Hill goal allowed a simple effort to pass under his body into the net.
Shaun Blows then doubled his goal tally when he cut in from the right hand side and scored with a crisp drive into the far corner. Matt Cortis completed the scoring for Padstow
and Jimmy Richards scored a consolation for North Hill after good work from Wayne Frankcombe.

Tregony lost top spot to Padstow after a surprising 2-1 home defeat by the Duke of Cornwall. The visitors scored with their only two chances of the day from Paulo Jorge and Steve Masters. Tregony dominated the match with up to twenty chances but could only score once through a Steve Cawrse goal.

Charlestown Saints moved closer to the top from a 7-2 defeat of Boscastle reserves. Tim Osborne scored four goals with Nick Mills, Russell Housego and Francisco Silva completing the rout.

Only three games were postponed today. The matches between Grampound and Altarnun, St.Minver and Nanpean and Pelynt Reserves v Delabole reserves were lost more to the damage caused by playing last week than the weather of this. A welcome relief for a number of clubs to get a game under their belts as the weather at last relented.
